Thumbnail Selection

I can't imagine this hasn't been requested already but I'm not seeing it in my search thus far. There needs to be a way to select or upload a thumbnail for clips before sending it out to be posted all over. So many times I work on a clip and then find that the service it posted to picked a random frame of our host with his eyes half closed and mouth agape looking stupid, and it's been that way for days. Please let us upload a thumbnail to be used!

I know the problem too well with Youtube shorts, a little tip, upload the video, etc. briefly to CapCut and when editing, you can directly search for a thumbnail image from the entire video or your gallery. Selected.. Just download brief brief information about the content and directly up to 4k and all formats and you have the perfect thumbnail with lettering and high resolution. You can then continue editing it with your normal process. With CapCut, the whole thing is done in 2 minutes. Unless the video is an hour long and you can't really decide what kind of thumbnail you want. Then I recommend scrolling the video in the gallery and taking several screenshots. And another analysis app/program then automatically selects the best image via viral high score. 😉 Have fun doing it.

+1! > Please study this similar feature which is available on Submagic. Would love to see it implemented here.

This tool is perfect but really, that this feature isn't there yet (at least for TikTok, I know YT API is a bit strange) is mindblowing. Please add this feature and let me select a frame in my video as the thumbnail!

I agree. You're stuck having to do it manually in Instagram/Tiktok etc. otherwise.

As a frequent user of OpusClip and a digital content creator, I truly appreciate the time-saving capabilities the platform offers. However, the current lack of custom thumbnail selection or upload options is seriously limiting the performance of my clips.
Thumbnails are critical for engagement, especially when publishing across platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. When I post a video and the thumbnail is auto-generated with a random awkward frame, it completely kills the click-through potential—no matter how good the content is.
Here’s what would make a huge difference:
Allow us to upload our own thumbnails before scheduling or posting.
At minimum, let us select from multiple generated stills from the video.
A basic text overlay template on a selected frame would also help give context and increase engagement.
Ideally, auto-generate a few thumbnail options with AI—based on face detection, composition, or even title context.
I’m glad to see this feature marked as "planned" and I hope it gets prioritized soon. It’s a game changer for creators trying to grow with intention and consistency.
Thanks again for a great product—looking forward to what’s coming next!

Feature request: overlay thumbnails or custom captions for scheduled short films

This would be amazing. This is one of the things holding me back from using the calendar to schedule posts. If we could upload thumbnails, or at least chose one ourselves from the video, that would be a game changer.

Anna Limoges I always use CapCut pro so everything works. Depending on what I have in mind, I sometimes also use two different programs. Sometimes even adjust 3 in TikTok or YouTube yourself.

Feature Request: Custom Thumbnail or Caption Overlay for Scheduled Shorts

Hi Opus Clip team,
First of all, thank you for creating such a powerful and time-saving tool. I've really enjoyed using Opus Clip for repurposing my content and scheduling my shorts.
I wanted to suggest a feature that I—and many other creators—would find incredibly valuable: the ability to edit or add custom thumbnails for shorts/videos that are uploaded via the Opus Clip scheduler.
As you probably know, YouTube doesn’t allow manual thumbnail changes for shorts when scheduled via third-party tools, which makes it difficult to control how they appear visually in the feed. This significantly affects engagement, since an eye-catching thumbnail (even just a simple text caption over the video image) can dramatically improve views.
Even adding an option to overlay a short title or bold caption over the preview frame would make a huge difference. It helps give more relevance and context to the short, especially when it’s competing with so much content in a fast-scrolling environment.
I know a lot of creators would benefit from this - just a small addition with a big impact.
Thanks again for all the amazing work you're doing!
Warm regards,
